Our Philosophy
The Philosophy of Destiny House is guided by the belief that family violence exists because social systems and individuals regard violence as an acceptable way to problem solve. It exists on the larger context of institutions and systems informed by values, beliefs, and paradigms that makes violence of all types possible. These institutions and systems sanction all types of violence in social as well as political circumstances involving individuals, groups, intimate partners and family members. The insidious nature of violence has become a part of our lives.

Destiny House makes no distinctions. Throughout history, warring nations, and communities all over the globe, as well as families and individuals, have justified the assertion of power and control over one another. Domestic Violence is but one arm of a body nourished by materialism, racism, sexism, and classism. The systematic view of violence guides the way we function as an organization.

Through advocacy and education we assist others and each other in identifying values and behaviors that are directly related to a world view and choices associated with a violent lifestyle. The personal is indeed the political. We do not work in isolation. Others may view or methodology as radical but it is our philosophy that to approach the epidemic of violence we must have more than one approach to effectively address the problem.
