Our Founder & Executive Director
As a survivor of horrendous physical and emotional abuse, Candy was motivated to help other victims. She began her work in domestic violence as a volunteer in Rhode Island’s first court-based Temporary Restraining Order Office in 1989.
Destiny House is the fulfillment of a dream. This domestic violence organization addresses domestic violence in communities of color. Candy feels that many battered women desire refuge from abusive relationships but also want and need to stay connected to their personal support networks of friends and family in the community. Like many other urban areas, affordable housing is scarce in Providence so many poor battered women are forced to remain rather than to relocate for their safety outside of the city.
Candy holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Rhode Island College and most recently was the recipient of the Marguerite Beaubien Award for Community Service from the Urban League of Rhode Island.
